I was thinking about buying a decent subwoofer. do u hook sub up to the deck or amplifier?

It won't automatically be bad for the sub, no; but there are all kinds of other problems with doing it. A single voice coil obviously can only handle half the power of two voice coils. Also, when you power a sub this way it changes the specifications of the subwoofer as far as what kind of box volume it needs to be matched with, so you can't go by the manufacturers recommendations any more. A voltage will be generated in the unused voice coil when it's moved back and forth near the magnet, and that will have an effect on the sub too. In other words, unless you know exactly how to compensate for these differences, it's a bad idea to run the sub this way.
