I have a 96 cavalier my radio is locked from the anti theft system.do i have to have the stock radio to unlock

if i know the unlock code can i use it on another radio other than the stock radio.

If you want to replace the factory radio the unlock code is not needed. The unlock code is specifically for your factory radio and will not work on other factory radios or aftermarket radios unless the code happens by some miracle to be the same.
