How to upgrade Radio System in a car?

The voice coil has separated from the cone. In other words, you blew your speaker. Get a new one, and don't turn it up so loud. You are obviously pushing the limits of your system.

It's the voice coil - it's fried.

My volume knob on my 2000 Ford Focus stereo gets really hot and turns into putty! How can I replace the knob?

if it only works fine when you push the sub in, check the lead wires (they are the wires connecting the voice coil to the terminals, usually inside the metal basket), I've put enough power to subs to literally snap these wires. if one is broken, then its a quick solder job to fix.
