i have a ported box for 2 12's and when i got it, it had cotton on the outside? i never heard of that, i always thought i shoudl put the botton on the inside? should i just take it off and line the inside with it, or should i leave it the same? doesnt make any sence to me, i guess someone would know better.

chances are that it is polyfill (stuff they use to stuff teddy bears). and if it is than it is supposed to go on the inside of the subwoofer. its supposed to make it sound better.My 1995 Geo Prizm's FM plays very soft.?
just take it all of. if i was you i wouldn't put it inside since its probably not enough. i would just throw it away if it looks ugly.

Yep, cotton on the outside, that's retarded, maybe the person you got it from used to carry fine china around in their trunk and needed it as padding. Whatever the case, take it off, it's not doing anything to effect the sound and it probably looks stupid. You are correct in thinking that it is supposed to be on the inside of the box, so if you want you could put it there (line one side of the box with it, about 1 in thick or so).It's usually standard to use 1/2 lb. of Polyfil to every cu. ft. of internal volume space.
If it's actually cotton, don't use it as cotton doesn't have the same properties as polyfil.
