Sub blown or messed up?

Question:
I bought an alpine type-r off an auction site (bad idea) and when I press lightly on the cone I hear a noise that sounds like a sort of scraping sound. Have any idea what that means for the sub? I have a new type-r that does not make this sound when pressed so I'm pretty sure this is not a good thing.

It's been overdriven and the voice coils are warped. This can lead to bigger problems. Ditch it.

sounds like the voice coil rubbing against the inside of the magnet. I would say that it is definately not good. My guess is that it was reconed and whoever did it didn't do a very good job. Unfortunately I doubt there is much you can do about it. Just hook it up and if it works run it til it blows

Just a bad recon. Coils rubbing against each other. Hook it up, don't believe you'll have any real problems with it. Should play almost like your new one.scraping sometimes also comes with age and maybe a little abuse...

I think maybe the sub has been played really hard. The sound that you hear is the cone rubbing against the voice-coil wires inside
