Can using a 400watt mono-amp Ruin a 1200watt Subwoofer?

Almost always the black wire is negative. Occasionally it will be white. Positive is harder, especially for stereo, because most radios now days have two positive wires, one that is hot all the time for the memory, and one that goes on and off with the key. You can buy a circuit tester very cheap at most auto parts stores. Your new radio should have a wiring diagram with it. If you can't figure out how to read it, you really should have someone help or show you how to do this job. You don't want to short out your dashboard, wires, or new radio.
