Why won't my sub hit??

Question:
I took my 2 Mobile spec 3 Farad caps, my 1400w power acoustic amp and my 15 in SoloBaric Kicker out of my 2005 Altima and put them in my 93 GS300 and now my sub is not hitting at all. I also added a double din Kenwood CD/MD player to the GS300(which i did not have in my Altima), could the head unit be the problem?

Hello. Here are a few things to check out. First, make sure that if you are using the internal crossover in the amplifier that it did not get accidentally flipped to full range or high pass. Make sure that the crossover point is set at the right point. Check the connection to the cd deck and if you hooked it to a subwoofer output, make sure that the sub out level is turned up. You mentioned that you did not have the Kenwood in the other install. If you were using a factory radio in the Altima, that meant you were using a high/low level output converter (more than likely). If this is true, then you would have had a stronger input into the amplifier and now going to a lower level input into the amp will make a dramatic difference. The only way to solve that problem is to add a crossover network with bass boost control so you can boost the input into the amplifier and that should set you back to where you were at before. Another problem is that a Lexus is a luxury car. There is alot of metal in that car and it is designed for comfort and QUIET!! It is going to be hard to get this car to be as loud as the Altima was. We just did a GS300 yesterday at the shop with 2 Interfire 2950 amplifiers, 4 Interfire 12's, and Interfire 2400, Interfire crossover, Optima battery in the trunk with caps.... it was loud, but no where near as impressive as it could have been in a different style of car. Give those things a try and maybe that will help get you back on track!! Good Luck and live loud!

Wow! No one even mentioned to fact that the gain might be set wrong. The purpose of the gain is to match the signal RMS volts from the head unit. Since you moved the system from one car to another, this makes sense.

The first system had a LOC I assume? Probably. That's the problem! The gain on the amp had to be way down to make up for the high level (and distorted, I will add) inputs. Now that you have low level outputs on the HU, your gain is too low. Your gain needs to be adjusted, period. Also, ditch the caps. Waste of your money. Do the Big3 upgrade (power wire from alternator to batt., ground from batt. to frame, and ground from frame to engine block) in 4g or bigger wire and you'll notice a better improvement than when you added your caps. I garantee. -Read the above mentioned link on setting gains correctly and you'll be impressed!
