Well, as others have said is mostly true with the exception that ANYTHING with more than 1 channel is a multi-channel amp. What size amp for two 12" 400 Watt RMS subwoofers?
Each channel has the abiltiy to run as many speakers as the impedance (ohms=resistance ) load will allow.
To clarify, say I have a mono amp that 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, I can wire four subs that are 125 @ 4 ohms each with them wired like so http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/s...
Why does my car stereo system shut off when listening to music?
Notice the watts RMS of each susb is 1/4 the total watts RMS of the one channel. The load (resistance) is a calculated amount for a series-parallel configuration.
A couple of questions about my audio system.?
This is true of all amps. The important thing to consider is to not put too much of a load on a channel.
The calculate ohms in series, the ohms just get added, but for parallel it's a bit more tricky as this is the equation:
I need a new head unit, any ideas?
where Z is the total impedance and sub# is each sub (or each coil in a mutli-coiled sub):
