If i have an amp and box for two speakers hooked up but there is only one speeker......?

Question:
hooked up will the amp send all the power to the one speeker causing it to blow or will it still only give half the power it has to that one side?.i have one speaker in but the other one got cracked from moving so i am waiting on a new one if i let it go will the amp put all its power to the one speaker and give it to much power?

depends on the speaker, i had dropped a hunting knife on one of my jl's and reran it to just one 12" from a 1000 watt amp and it did fine, but i had it ran from both sides not just one
