What could be making my sub start violently rumbling at random?

Question:
One dual 2 ohm Type R 12 wired to one ohm being powered by a Soundstream 705s.

JBL GTQ 190 4/3/2 AMPLIFIER , power want stay on?

Everything will be working fine but then at random the sub will start violently rumbling and I will have to turn the stereo off to stop it. I would think I should be able to make it stop by turning off the sub from the headunit without actually turning the unit itself off but when I do that it dosn't make it stop for some reason. When the sub is playing normaly and I cut the it off from the headunit it does go off like it's supposed to but it seems to have no effect once it goes bizerk. I don't understand that b/c once the remote signal is cut shouldn't the amp lose power? I'm pretty sure everything is wired up correctly. I have rewired it before and it still does this. Any ideas?

Check your ground wire, you may have to add a second ground wire to the system. I had the same problem once, adding a second ground to a different place solved it and I haven't had the problem since.

Front Firing Subs, with seats down, what do you think?

Also, make sure you have your amp mounted tight, if it's bouncing around, it could cause the problem also.

What would sound better??

The fact that the fault is intermittent and that sub does not stop when cut off from the amp indicates a wiring fault. It must get a signal from something. I realize that you already have rewired this but I would still ask somebody else to have a good look at it. In electronics nothing is as hard to find as your own mistakes. This would be my first step.

I agree to check your ground resistance, adding another ground might be the case. But, check and adjust the gains on the amp. They are -not- volume knobs and should be adjusted correctly.
