Doesn't have to have it, but it reduces the labor involved, and makes for a much cleaner installation. If your installer is insisting that you need it, it is because he can actually do a cheaper and better job with the harness.
Not if you are replacing it with another GM radio. Be careful with that idea, as they produce different sizes of them, depending on the vehicle. You also don't need one to use an aftermarket radio, but you will have to cut off the original connector. If you are using an aftermarket radio, I would buy the adaptor, they only cost a couple of bucks, and save alot of headache. Circuit city and Best Buy will install for free if you buy the radio and adapters from them, that's the best option for an aftermarket radio. You get what you want, without the backache from messing around in one of those tiny cars.

if it is a late 2002 yes you need the special harnness, you can not instasll the radio with out that plugif you do you lose the door chime
key on the ignition warning
low gas warning
and the airbag lights sometimes turn on
also the cluster is not going to work good or will give you errors

you can use the relocation harness the above person mentioned or peripheral makes an adaptor for about 100 bucks thaty allows you to completely remove the radio from the car instead of moving it to the trunk. you will still have to run a new acc. wire thoughMore Questions & Answers ...
