How can i get the car radio out?

we have a 1997 ford fiesta encore. how do we get the radio out as we need to find the serial number of the radio. there are 4holes in the plastic front plate . do we need a special tool if so where can we get one? are they expensive?

There is a special tool for this you can get at a dealership. It is just a piece of wire that is bent in a U shape with little notches near the end. I dont think they are very expensive. If you are a patient type you can make a coat hanger work. Cut out two pieces of coat hanger about 10" long each. Then bend them both into a U. The transverse part of the U needs to be as long as the space between the two holes...about 2-3" if I remember correctly. The length of the U needs to be at least 4" and has to be exactly the same on both sides. Then just push the coathanger U into the holes, one U for each side of the radio. It will take some patience because you will need to fiddle with it until the radio releases. You will see the radio visably pop out about .5" when you get it. When I did it like this I could only get one side at a time, just make sure you dont let that side pop back in whie you are trying to get the other side out. I think the tool is pretty cheap from Ford so you might want to just go that option. I have also removed a radio with the tool and it took about 20 minutes less and was very easy. Just push the tool in ang the notches hook onto something so you just pull the tool out and the radio comes with it.
