get audiobahns i paid 140 for my Audiobahn 1206T that does 2200 watts. its amazing i set car alarms off with 1000 watt amp on it that i paid 100 forEbay is the place to be looking at for good priced stuff. i got all my stuff brand new (all Alpine) from ebay.

depending on the quality of a sub and amp, I would put my money in a high quality amp and sub that makes less power than a low quality amp and sub with tons of power.
What contributes to quality? Well for an amp, it is the ratio between continuous power (RMS) and maximum power. A lot of the lower quality ampswill advertise 1000 watts max but only have an efficiency of 300 or 400 watts RMS. A high quality amp will advertise 800 watts max but will produce 400 watts RMS.

The difference here is that the extra power is unnecessary which will result in a hotter operating amp, higher risk of burnout and more noise from the extra power running through resulting in a less than optimal sound.

A quality sub is one that is constructed with high quality magnets, rubber and cone material (anything but paper) that will be able to withstand weather conditions (150 degree trunk) and the abuse you'll be putting on it when you turn it up.

The bottom line here is: getting a lower wattage amp and sub will be better than getting a cheaper high wattage amp and sub.

Here is, literally, the best way you'll want to go. Get 2 12" Alpine Type R subs (the newer models, with the ribbed accordion-looking surround). Get 2 SWR-1242 so you can wire them down together to 1ohm. This will be, maybe $300 with shipping brand new if you buy online. More if from a store. Then pick whatever 2000w amplifier with the money you have left. Get one that puts out 2000w RMS at 1ohm. The Type-R claims a much lower RMS rating, but any mobile audio enthusiast will tell you that the Type-R can take 1000wRMS all day long. I might get a Hifonics BXi 2006D amp. Just know that you'll need some more money for wiring, install if you won't do it yourself, and for enclosure. Oh yes, and don't buy a prefab enclosure. You might as well buy a crappy sub if you do that, do some research and build one yourself.PS. If you are willing to settle for something less, then you can get Audiobahns as some have suggested. (common knowledge that Audiobahn = crappy, except for Eternal/Immortal series subs). Given enough power and in the right install, a Type-R can blow away any Audiobahn, possibly even an Immortal/Eternal.
