that question is something you will have to answer yourself, but company's that have been around longer have good systems examples are pioneer , sony, kenwood. you have to decide by going and listening to them and see whay sounds best,personally im a kenwood and pioneer guy

Personally i think that alpine is definitely the best, i just put an alpine cda-9856 in my Mazda, its very easy to navigate and use and it has the ipod full-speed. i highly recommend this receiver it works like a dream. I used to have a kenwood but this one beats it by a long shot in my terms.alpine is top of the line audio.... the on eur getting might not be the best or the best but alpine is an excellent brand. Personally I think if you go with Alpine, Pioneer or Eclipse you cant lose
Alpine would be a brand to consider for my head unit but i would put pioneer premier on top of my list followed by either kenwood or alpine. In all it really comes down to personal opinions of whats best or better than other brands.

I like Panasonic, & JVC mainly. I think that alpine is alright though.alpine is one of the best you'll find. they have competative features, competative pricing, and close to the best signal to noise ration on the market. to say they are the best would be stretching it, but to say they are one of the best would be correct.
i don't feel like researching yet to come up with a solid top 5 list for this year, but i promise you that jvc, sony, panasonic, premier, blaupunkt, boss, dual, dub, and all like brands will not be on it.

There are many other brands that are good like the Pioneer, Sony Kenwood and Clarion. The difference is that they all differ with the sound they send to your amp/speakers. For example the Kenwood has the best bass ever but it's a bit poor in treble. The Pioneer and Clarion produces a poor bass but a more clarified treble. The Sony produces a gentle bass, gentle mid and gentle treble.I have the Pioneer dvd/navigation system. Can it be rigged to play dvd's again??
Then there is the feature of the CD player, which Head unit fits well in a particular car. For example my friend has a Skoda and he fitted a Pioneer one and when he goes through bumps, the CD player doesn't stop playing but when I tried to install a Pioneer on my Punto and went through bumps the CD player stopped playing several times and so I installed the Kenwood. All that I'm trying to tell you is that the housing where the unit has to be installed plays a good part when buying the unit.

As regard alpine, I say that they are good units, they have good quality of sound and they are good looking too. So if I was going to buy an alpine, I would for sure but when I went to buy mine I found that the Kenwood was a bit nicer.
