Well first off you should have bought the 2 or 1 ohm version because they can pump more bass with a 2 ohm sub than a 4 ohm. The lower the ohm the more power an amp can give to a sub. If it is not possible then 4 ohm is fine.after market audio equipment vs original equipment?
The only amps I would recommend are Kicker, Pioneer, or Kenwood. The only subs I would recommend are pioneer, alpine, and maybe kicker but I am not a kicker fan and would not get one. I am a pioneer fan to the fullest, best for sql (sound quality level) and bass power. Alpine is next but it is still nice and you can work with it.
You should have been more specific on the sub you have because alpine make a couple subs with the number 1242 in it. Here is the info about each sub then. The RMS, how much power it pumps just by itself, is 250 watts. The max is 750 watts. If you got this sub then PLEASE return it because you can't do much with this and no one will know that you even have a sub in your trunk

If you did then you should get a Pioneer Premier PRS-D3000SPL Amp. It is 500 watts when wired for 4ohm. If you get this make sure it is wired for 4 ohm or you subs will blow.

This sub is a little better with 500 watts RMS and 1500 max. It is still 4 ohm so only so much power will be able to go to it.
You should maybe get the Alpine PDX-1.1000 amp but I don’t know much about this amp. It is 1000 watts so it will push this sub to the max but I don’t know about the sql. You will have to find some reviews about it and see what people have said about it. But once again a 2 ohm amp would have been better with more bass than a 4 ohm amp.

This is the sub I hope you got. This is a nice and powerful but all subs are only as good as the amp that goes to it. It is 1000 watts RMS and 3000 watts MAX. This would be great if it was 2 ohm because with 2 subs and 2 good amps would be heard a block or 2 away!!

what type of 1242 is it the type r type s type x type e cuz they are all 1242 but if it the type e then from my experiance i'd look for 4 ch amp thats 125 wats rms a side at 4 ohms and got a butt load of amps (40 amps or higher) that way its all matched up and with all the amps blow your head offMore Questions & Answers ...
