Why am I getting a loud low frequency hum through the woofers?

Question:
I hooked up the factory radio to an amp. The radio did not have a remote wire, so I tapped into the ignition wire so that the amp would turn on with the radio. Problem is when the car is started, the radio is delayed turning on and I get a loud low frequency hum through the woofers. I had to install a line out converter on the speaker wires to convert to RCA plugs due to no high level inputs on the amp. Also, when the radio is turned off, and the car is on, the hum is present also. Any suggestions.

Sounds to me like you might be missing a ground wire. Make sure that the radio is grounded correctly. Look for a green wire coming out of the radio and attach it to a grounding bolt or to the frame of the vehicle. Just attaching it to the ignition power won't ground the radio.

Try moving your remote wire to th radio fuse. The way you have it now, the amp is on anytime ignition is on, moving it to the radio fuse in your fuse panel should help.also double check your ground wire on the amp, make sure it is getting a good connection. Good luck

take your car to the local stereo dude shop and get the wires straightened out soon or you may have more problems than just a low woffer high pitched hummmmmmmm --- you gave it yuor best shot and now fix it or chance the loss ....
