LOL, compare the price, i had my Amp done in circuit city, he did a very good job. Installing Audio system is not Rocket science. You simply connect the wires, ground it properly, and bolt it on tight. Believe it on not, those Audio system installation is just like installing a Surround sound system in ur house. Besides the fact that you have to open up the car and drill holes, which you dont find comfortable doing. I had it done in circuitcity because It a cold weather during the winter. and they are only charging me $70 for a 4 hrs of work if i do it myself.WUsing two set of HID light bulb in a car ill damage any electrical component or dry the battery?
check the reputation of the indpendent shop, if they do a good job then compare prices to see what one to choose. Circuit city doesnt do a bad job, id pick circuit city over best buy any day though....I worked as a Roadshop Manager for Circuit for 8 years. I can tell you that most of the installers are pretty good. Circuit has a good training program and most managers are there because they truly love the business. I say most because naturally with a company that big there are a few that will fall through the cracks.

As far as product selection, I dont agree with one of the other posters that said you get better equipment at an independent shop. Last I checked, Kicker, MTX, Pioneer etc, were all great companies with a solid reputation. Sure, you can go to an independent and get exclusive lines like Diamond Audio etc but get ready to drop some serious money.

If you buy speakers or subs at Circuit, buy the extra 2 or 3 year warranty. if they blow they replace them, no questions asked. Here's a tip, only buy the warranty on one pair (if more than one identical pair is purchased) or one sub. There's no serial number that they record so you can in essence get protection on both subs for the price of one, just don't try to return both subs at the same time.

I would go with the independent shop if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. But why not buy a book and try it yourself that way when you want to upgrade or change things you know how and don't have to pay every time.
