It sounds like you've got a knob going bad. If it is old, it's wore out. If it's new you've got a short. Warranty? Or throw it out your window and save your self some stress.

How do i fix a auxilary line that keeps cutting out on a head unit?

It's a heat problem.
You are turning it up too high, and the poor quality system you bought can't handle it.

Try buying a quality system and have it installed by a tru pro.

Car subwoofers?

it is most probably a bad earth or a Sony system. you take it to a certain volume (basically an increase of voltage) and it shorts until gravity helps out to re-earth the cable low volume is low voltage therefore less draw for an earth.
remember; big cable ,big *** noise!!

Ever wonder how to set the gains or what size power wire to use?

Sounds like an IC unit has burnt out. You could repair it, but with car stereos being so cheap these days why not replace it..?

I need help with the sound system in my car?

The vast majority of car stereos have a thermal sensor chip built into the circuit right beside the main power amplifier(s). If the amplifier gets too hot then the unit shuts down in order to prevent amplifier damage. I had this problem with a Granada Scorpio and a couple of other cars. The Scorpio has its stereo heatsink in a small space (bad design) and it is too close to a heat source. The only way to stop this is to either get a fresh cool air flow to the heatsink or at least a way for the heat to escape whilst allowing new air in. I intalled a small 12V fan (from Maplin) very close to the heat sink (powered from the auto antenna wire from the stereo, current requirement is fine) and also fitted a small conduit which exited elsewhere behind the facia. Worked fine, but a cow of a job to do. I would have just fitted a separate P.A. elsewhere but there was nowhere that I could fit it.
