Question:
hi. i have a 88 silverado and im putting a system in it. i am building my own box and i was thinking about 2 12 inch kick l5 subs. do you think this is a good idea or should i just get 10 inchers. also. if i get the 12 inch kicker l5's i wanted to get a 2 channel mono amp to power them and i was wondering what would be a good amp to get the 600 wat rms to both of the subs. thanks and all help would be appreciated because i dont know much about this sub wattage and amperage stuff. the box i am building is going to behind my seat because its a regular cab. i already know the dimensions to make it so any help about the amp would be great. thanks

It all depends on what your intentions are for the system. Do you want it to be just obnoxiously loud, so you can piss off the neighborhood, and the local police? or do you want it to be tight and punchy sounding? Square speakers reproduce a lot of unwanted frequency in a sound system, which is one reason why top end sound systems for home theater and recording applications use only round speakers, cause square speakers sound distorted. On the other hand you get more square inches of cone space out of a square speaker, which means more air flow with less amperage, so it might gain you a dB or two. Buy an amp that is the same Ohm value as the speakers. (Ex. 8, 4, 2). I would suggest buying an amp that meets or slightly exceeds the speakers RMS, Only because if you buy one that only runs at half the power your speakers is running at you will be maxxed out on the amp all the time, and it will overheat frequently. if you buy one thats a little bit higher RMS than your speakers you wont be running it as hard to get the sound pressure levels that you desire. I hope my knowledge and advise is of some help to you .I need full power amplifier but my country doesnt this amp?
there is no 2 channel mono amp there is either a 2 or a mono amp subs i would go for alpine type r or type x however i would go for the 12Ive heard single cab trucks with 2 10" Kicker CVX's and they are actually pretty loud for 2 10's in a single cab truck. And i suggest buying a truck box.they are very hard to build.
