How long should i leave the radio in a 96 saab 900s disconnested b4 it resets itself?

i need to reset the radio so it will let me put the code in my friend messed it by entering a bunch of wrong codes now it is locked and i have the right code but i need to reset it so i can put the code in. im looking for the fastest way possible so anything will help.
