i have 2 12" pioneer subs powered by a 1200 watt amp the subs are in a enclosed box but the box is rather large would it sound better to port it or not?

Depends on how you like it. A regular sealed enclosure makes for good sound quality. If its sound quantity you want, a ported box is the way to go! But a ported box is often way bigger than a regular sealed box. This is where the bandpass box comes in. You get the best of both worlds, lots of air movement in a regular enclosure size. Check out the paperwork that came with the speakers it will tell you how big of a box you need for each application. Too small and the speakers are starved for air. too big and speakers don't have anything to drive against.I need help/advice/ walkthrough on my car amp?
Consult the manufacturers box specifications/recommendations... Ported boxes are tricky.Also depends what you mean by "sounding better". Are you the "boom" , "thump" or "audiophile" type? Boxes are good for boom and thump, but free air is the best for accuracy.
