I have a scanner in my car that is pluged in to my cigeritte lighter.?

i want to hard wire it to my car so i can use my cigerette lighter for other things. how can i do that with out paying someone?

You can find an unused/empty fuse in ur fuse panel and run a power wire from there or run a wire from ur battery thru ur firewall to the scanner. Then find a good spot to ground to and ur good to go.

There are some add a line fuse wire you can get at a parts or store, You just pull a fuse then plug in the add a line wire like a fuse and you have a hot wire that holds 2 fuses. One for the hot wire and one for original fuse. Just take the wires from the scanner, one is power the other is ground, wire up and ready to go. Be sure to use same amp fuse that is in plug.

well, you should have told what kind of car you have, that way i could have told you what the colours are you need to be looking for, for your wiring. but what you need to do is get out your test light, find an ignition source from the key cylinder or fuse box, connect the center pin of a cigarette lighter (buy them from a auto part store) to the ignition source and ground the other wire to the chassis of the car, and your done! actually cutting of the plug that you are currently using may not work because the scanner may use a lower voltage say like 4 volts where your car will give you 12 volts, in turn the scanner will suffer the damage, most satalite radios are like that. so using a cigarette lighter adapter and hiding it up under the dash is a cleaner and more efficient way to install devices like yours

I did this to mine.... what u do is cut off the part that goes into the cigarette lighter and cut and splice the wires..... then you have to connect one of the wires to a power source (I actually tapped into my cigarette lighter for the power source) and u ground the other wire to a metal source....
