What is better for a sub box, fibber glass of using MDF?
To install a basic subwoofer system you need these things...do I have to buy another stereo for my car?
before anything, your head unit has to have a pair of rca outputs on the back so you can hook up the amp.
[Subwoofer(s)]
-any size you want.
-be sure to look at the "RMS" watts and number of voice
coils and the "Ohms".
[Subwoofer Box]
-figure out wich type of box you want
(sealed,ported,bandpass)
-than get the recommended size box for the subwoofer (it is
usually in the manual of the woofer)
[Amplifier]
-get a mono amp(subwoofer amp).
-make sure the "RMS" wattage equals the 'Total' wattage of
the subwoofer(s) "RMS" watts.
-be sure that you have the correct "ohms" to get the
correct "RMS" watts.
-dependingon how you wire the subs, you can achieve
different ohm loads.
[Power/Ground wire]
-the power wire will go from the battery, directly to the amp.
-you need a fuse no more that 18" from the battery.
-you will need to get the cable through the firewall of the car.
-if you have a capacitor, it should be as close as possible to
the amp.
-the ground cable should come out of the amp to the "bare"
chasis of the car, and should be kept as short as possible.
-if you have a capacitor, than the ground cable will go from
the amp to the capacitor. and the capacitor will be wired to
the chasis.
[Remote Wire]
-this is the wire that will make the amp turn on/off when
your head unit turns on/off.
-if you have a radio antenna in the back, you can just
merge it into the remote wire of the antenna.
[RCA Cables]
-these run from the head unit's "aux" or "subwoofer" output.
-you connect them at the head unit, than work your way to
the amp.
-try to keep these away from the power cable of the amp.
(it will cause a humming sound when volume it low).
-about 18" away is a good distance
[Last step]
-figure out how you are going to mount everything in the
trunk.
-this step can get pretty frustrating.
If you are getting a very strong system. you should consider getting a optima car battery, a capacitor, and eventually a stronger alternater
my car radio works but you have to turn the volume all way up just to hear a little of it?
Here is the link that shows what the different ohms and number of voice coils are for. neither is better than the other, they are simply for getting different ohm loads to match the RMS wattage of your amp.
Hint: lower ohm loads causes the amp to heat up slower (good thing)

Hi there fitting an amp and subwoofer is tricky but not all that hard.Did you buy the amp and sub in a package so it came with all the wires? You will have to have the power cable(mainly red) running from your car battery all the way to your boot and then once you have done that its basically plain sailing.hopefully i have been of some help! What do i do about feedback in my home/car stereos?
1. One way is to run the speaker wires from the head unit to the input of your amp, if it has that option. Then run speaker wires from the amp to the speakers.2. If there are RCA jacks on the head unit and the amp (red and white plugs), hook these up to the head and amp, then the speakers to the amp.
In both cases you will need to hook the 12volts from the amp (usually red wire) to the battery, and the remote wire (usually orange) to 12volts controlled by the truck key switch. Also, you will need to ground the amp unit (usually black wire) to the chassis or frame of the truck.
If using the RCA plugs, keep them seperate and as far away as possible from the red and orange 12volt power wires. This will reduce engine noise (humming) from coming through your speakers.
i have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee overland with the nav screen and no overhead dvd system.?
Well first off you need a amp which will increase the power output of the speaker..maybe you should consider getting some 15 or 12 inch speakers which could make your sond boom alot more...just don't do it in a neighbor hood where people complain about it....I have 2 12 inch speakers 675 watt amp and they do the job...Is there a place where i can find store fronts available for rent? retail places?
Amp: You need a wiring kit which will consist of a power cable which feeds the amp, an earth cable, a phono to phono cable to connect it to the head unit and a remote cable which tells the amp when to turn on (in conjunction with them head unit).Question about port area for a vented box.?
The power cable needs to run from your battery and into the power input in your amp
The earth needs to be connected to the chassis of the car, just find and easily accessible bolt, undo it and connect accordingly
I need to know what size audio capacitor I should look for if I have a 1200 watt amp.?
The phono cable needs to be connected to the sub output of your headunit (if not the sub output, the rear speaker output) and then into the input on the amp
The remote needs to go from a switchable live on the head unit to the remote input on the amp
Cd player in truck not working?
The speaker cable feeding the sub needs to be connected (with the amp bridged) to one positive and one negative of the left and right speaker outputs...... if you dont have a bridge function then simply cut a short piece of cable out and connect both positive out puts together and the same for the negatives and connect as above.
How do I connect my iPod to the car stereo if I don't have a jack on the dashboard?
Seems allot but its piss easy when you've done it once!
How much are BOSE sound systems for cars ?
1. If there are RCA phono jacks on the cd player and the amp (red and white plugs), hook these up to the head and amp. Also you will need a remote wire which is usually in Blue or orange thin wire connected to amp's remote connecter
2. Use a thick power cable (Red) from the amp to the battery and another thick short Black wire to the chasis to make earth.
Can external hard drives be used with an cd/mp3 player in the car?
Put a sub in a bass box for good b lines
3. From the amp's speaker output to the sub
If you don't have RCA connections, you can use a "line level converter" that taps off of the speaker wires and converts the signal to line level RCA to connect to the amp.
Can you splice an RCA cable? And if so, what are the losses, if any?
They're about $20 at Wal-Mart.
