Satellite Radio installed in an older car?

Question:
I have an older Lexus and would like to have Satellite Radio. My sister has it in her new Honda Pilot and loves it. And since I commute 35-55 minutes a day I think it would work out for me. How are the systems that you install and which company is the best?

Really, if you have an older car or a brand new car, it shouldnt affect anything regarding satallite radio. It sounds like you will get good use out of it since you drive so much.

I would say XM, but what you really need to do is check out the program lists and selections for both to see what best suits you and your taste.

Will this setup of subs box and amp work?

Most of the Satellite Radios I've seen are also FM transmitters. They can sit on the dashboard and you tune the radio to an unused FM station (ex: 88.9) and the Satellite Radio will broadcast loud and clear. I have XM and it's pretty good. Though XM and Sirrus are in the process of a merger, I'm thinking that there won't be much difference between the two.

Subwoofer enclosure volume?

You can easily get a self-install kit. Basically, these include a "stand" that includes an "FM broadcaster" that sends the sound to an unused FM station on the radio. You tape/glue/screw the stand to something in your car (like the dash). Some models don't even require a stand. You just plug in into the cigarette lighter and the antenna.

Static in car Radio?

Speaking on the antenna, this is the hardest part of self-install. You need to run a thin wire from wherever you have the radio to the roof. This is most easily done by snaking it under the passenger's side dash (usually under the glove box), and then out the door. Some electrical tape will hold it in place. The antennas are magnets that stick to the roof.

No sound from CD or Ipod but have sound from tuner?

Really, it's easy. If you want, you can pay Best Buy or another store to do an install.

There are also ways to just replace the whole radio, but unless you're skilled, you'll need a pro to do this.

How do I remove crossovers, car speakers?

XM or Sirius? Check the programming and the decide. In theory, if all goes as planned, they'll be the same company next year anyway.
