Question:
will adding a subwoofer crossover stop my sub from cutting out? i have a 1400 watt power acoustic and a 12" rockford fosgate punch sub. i added a ground fault isolator and it seemed to help a little, but is a crossover what i need to get everything working right?

Which hifonics comp sets are better?
Crossover circuits separate various frequency ranges and help reduce higher tones going to your sub-woofer, but it sounds like it just may be overpowered. Something is cutting out on peaks, to protect your investment, but something similar to a zenier diode before that should smooth the peaks and keep down the number of *annoying* cutouts. The crossover will only eliminate high frequency sound. The power handling of your subwoofer(s) is the issue here. If your amp is pushing 1400 watts, but your speaker is only rated at say 500 watts, then it probably has a safety mechanism that cuts off the amp after a certain level has been reached.

I have a Profile 2000 watt amp, and it has crossover and low pass built in. It pushes 1000 watts x 2 channels, and my two subs I have hooked to it are rated at 1200 watts each. You need a sub that can handle the power of the amp.

i agree, a crossover might not help you here, is there anything on your amp that lets you regulate the output?More Questions & Answers ...
