My sub hits down to 12hz. how do I achieve that low of a frequency if my amp is rated 20hz. and up?

Although you may want the most frequency range you can get, any audio below 25hz - 30 hz is of no use to the sound quality of the music. That's why most reputable amplifiers include a 25 hz subsonic filter that when turned on rolls of the sound below 25 hz at a very sharp crossover curve. That's the subsonic range and adds very little to the quality of music. If you have a switch like that on your amp...ALWAYS...use it. That will allow your system to put forth more power in the range in which you want to listen. Most musical instruments don't even play that low unless it's in the 5th harmonic or higher. Playing these low low frequencies can damage your sub (even if it says it will go that low) and and create excess heat in your amplifier.
