This will actually result in less power going to the sub, which is perfectly fine as long as the gain is set correctly.

No, it is not "bad" as long as you keep the bass down to where the subs are not crackling or distorting, just keep the gain on the amp or the bass on your stereo down to where it does not happen.Question regarding car stereo specs. and installation.?
no it is by far better to over power a sub rather than to under power it. whe u under power a sub it has to work harder for the power it needs to perform correctlyWill my 12" sub sound? good if i let it hang sideways behind the backseat?
You're going to need to wire your sub in series to protect your amp. If you wire in parallel you will show your amp a 1 ohm load. Your amp will most likely shut off with this low of an impedance. By wiring in serial your going to show the amp a 4 ohm load. That will mean that your amp will now put out 350 watts +/-. So your sub will be just fine. Sorry to give you that news by that's the way she blows. To get full power from your amp you would need either a single voice coil 2 ohm sub or a 4 ohm dual voice coil...them wire in parallel to get your 2 ohm load. What is the thread size for a guitar/amp knob?
Note: Don't run your exsisting sub with one coil to try and get the right ohm rating.if it's dual voice coil you need to run both.
Do I really need to worry about my car cd player's faceplate?
You could orded another sub if you want and if you have the room.same rating and wire in series on each sub and then connect both to the amp in parellel. That will get you your optimum 2 ohm load on your amp and it will POUND like you want!.
