Subwoofer Mounting?

So I have 2 12" sony subs in a sealed box, I know that people usually mount them facing towards the back of the car but I want to know if facing them forward would make them sound better different or worse. By the way what is the best way to mount a box in a car (screws, nails, thumb tacks, duct tape...)?

the only way to find out how it sounds best is to try it both ways and see how it sounds and how you like it, the only way to mount a sub is with screws, if your talking about mounting the box into the car, then also screws, just get some mounts or whatever you wana call it, make sure the screws are not that long and that you arent goin to scrwe through into something under the car or atything, hope that helps

Most subs...NOT ALL...will hit harder when either facing each other in the back most corners of the car ( 2 boxes) or in your case...1 box...while facing the rear of the car. Why you ask...sound waves vary in length depending on the frequency being produced. Lower notes...(subs) have very long wavelenths. When you fire them into the rear of the car they have a tendency to amplify themselves and increase in volume. That's why our cars hit so much harder that our homes do. Larger area for the waves to travel therefore less amplification by room dimension.

That being said.I still prefer the systems I install to face forward. I little less boom...but I feel more accurate. Play around with your box but, try to always use the same material at the same volume to compare. Best way...get a cheap db meter from Radio Shack.Numbers will be more accurate than your ears in this situation for sound volume.

As for mounting.some inexpensive brackets at the hardware store and some screws are the safest. Be careful when drilling in your car though. Many gas tanks are located in the rear.
