personally i prefer gettin a mono block amp because you know what the watts are going to be used for. Get a amp that has at least 500 watts rms and 1000 watts max. if you get any less watts they you risk frying you amp, permanetly. try overstock.com they have amps for nice prices and they are new.do you get a/lap top that has sat/nav fitted and can be fitted into a 12v car?
Id go two channel amp. Mono means one channel and two channel is kinda obvious. It all means that the more channels you have, the more speakers you can ultimately hook up. Id get a rockford fosgate or kicker amp. A very big amp cuz 500 watts rms sounds like you probably have some good subs. I am assuming that these subs come in a box already. If you really want to get creative with hooking up multiple subs and amps, you need to take a course on Circuit Analysis, which can be found in many college physics books under Electricity & Magnetism. You need to understand the relationship between Voltage, Current, and Resistance and how different circuits (the way you wire it up) affects each of these things. For example, the gentleman above thinks that two 12" 4 ohm speakers can somehow fry a car amplifier. Yeah right, lol! It doesn't work that way. Now maybe 8, 4 ohm speakers wired improperly will...
Also, where many ametuers make the biggest mistake is in the wiring of a big amplifier. A 500 watt rms amp should get at LEAST 4 guage power AND ground cables. And you may need larger depending on the length of wire used. Use good terminals and expect to pay at least $200 for wiring alone. Good luck.
