I wouldn't recommend it. You could blow something, and even if it does work the equalisation will be all over the place at different amplitudes. You might be able to match impedance using capacitors & resistors but you would suffer a quality loss and make a crappy equalisation curve doing so.Using the multimeter isn't satisfactory as the impedance is rated for under loaded conditions. Impedance displayed on the meter won't match the impedance listed on the speaker if it isn't in use anyway.

it will work, i've done things like that before and it worked fine... i dont know how good it is for your speaker though. look and make sure there isnt a switch on the amp to select what ohm rating you want. Also, look into bridging two channels together, that may get you the ohm rating you need.no you will blow your amp up so you need a crossover to handle the 2

You will be fine. Your amp will only put out roughly 1/2 of it's available power though. You never want to go below your amps ohm rating. Above is just fine. Your amp will run cooler...longer life. If you want to you could get another sub.same model and size.put both in your car and you will get full power from your amp. Just wire the 2 subs.+ to + and - to - and then connect both to you amp. That's called wiring your subs in parallel and your amp will then see a 2 ohm load.Which mobile navigation system is better? TomTom or Garmin??

I had the same problem. It will work. You just won't get maximum quality. It will still sound pretty good; but you will be the only who would know that it could possibly sound twice as good. My amp eventually got a short but it lasted 10 yrs like that. Oh! just make sure the amp has an equalizer. If it doesn't have one built in you will need to buy one. Good Luckyour amp is prolly stamped with a 2 ohm stable rating
that basically says you can run (2) 4 ohm speakers in parallel
you will be fine and not blow anything
just adjust the gains on the amp accordingly. you do not need to jack the gains all the way up to get your ride to bump.

All the 2 ohm label means is the amp is 2 ohm stable (you can load it down to this). Anything above 2 ohms is perfectly safe.

The deal is when you load an amp at 2 ohm vs. 4 ohm, the output power usually doubles. So the amp will push about half the watts at 4 ohms as it will with 2 ohm.
This is actually a good thing though.
