When your engine is not running, the amp is running only off the battery, which should be 12.6 volts when the battery is healthy. As soon as you start your car, the amp is running off your alternator, which should be producing 13.8 - 14.4 volts.

The voltage output of a vehicle depends on the alternator and it's regulator. Most outputs are in the 13.8 volt range. The audible difference from 14.4 and 13.8 won't even be heard.
