Cd changer in 98 pontiac grand prix?

Question:
i just bought a new "used" grand prix. it has a cd changer in the trunk that seems to be all hooked up and everything, and when i push play, the lights come on that say what track is playing, but i still get the radio. if i turn the radio off, nothing. i've tried hitting every button, like the am/fm, and anything else, but there's nothing that has worked? any ideas?

So the lights on the head unit come on, and it appears that it is working on the head unit end...have you tried having someone listen in the trunk to hear if the changer unit is doing anything? I had one of these in my BMW, and the input connection sending the music from the changer to the head unit went bad...
