Are 5x7 and 6x8 door speakers the same?

I have a 1999 35 aniversary Ford Mustang and it has 6x8 door speakers all around and some places say that 5x7 are the same does anyone know for sho.

Yes they will fit. I have a 1996 Mustang and they are all interchangeable.

They are not the same, that's why they are different sizes. 6x8 and 5x7 are external measurements of the speakers. On some vehicles the holes can hold different speakers if the proper mounting holes are present or can be drilled.
