Question:
I just bought a 96 Monte Carlo that still has its stock cassette player. Everytime I try to listen to the radio I can turn the knob only slightly and the sound instantly gets extremely loud and then the sound declines until you hear nothing. Also I noticed that when it happens the front speakers pop before it gets loud. I was wondering if the problem would have to do with the speakers, the stereo, or the wiring somewhere in the car? Someone please help because I need music! lol!

Sounds like a dirty potentiometer (volume knob) on the stereo. Scrap the stock unit for an aftermarket one.How do you wire a 4 ohm sub and 2 ohm amp? i am running 2 subs and 2 amps?
It's definitely in the stereo; faulty wiring or speakers wouldn't cause that problem. Why do I get hollow sounding bass through my car audio woofers?
If u don't change that receiver your gonna be without that and have some blown speakers. I advise u not to mess with it again or it could send to strong a signal and blow one or more of 'em. If u can't get an expensive one u can pick one up super cheap at your local junkyard. Why do my subs sound bad when i close my trunk?
The radio is dead. Go buy a new one at best buy or somewhere. They usually install them for free but be prepared to pay a little extra for the dash-kit, antenna adapter and wiring harness. Personally I like Alpine and Pioneer aftermarket decks. They are correct... Purchase yourself a new head unit. This has seen it's better day. Also I agree that you should do this sooner than later before the volume gets stuck on an extremely loud setting and causes damage to your speakers.
