Question:
I have just upgraded my car audio system. Everything is Power Acoustik I have 3 12in Fubar Subs. I have 3 800 watt class D amplifiers and a 4 channel amp. I purchased a 2 Farad capacitor but i honestly think thats not going to be enough. Can anybody give me any ideas or opinions on what number farad capacitor i should use?
I am looking to buy a new CD/MP3 player, any suggestions??
Thank You!

Javin M is so full of.well crap. He doesn't have the electrical background to know what a capacitor is let alone what it does. I know this because he and I have had a little chat on the matter and he has trouble backing up his claims with fact, he relies strictly on hearsay.Lost display screen for radio in '07 suburban is there a button i need to push or how do I reset it?
As far as connectivity, it would be best to contact the manufacturer to do it correctly.
I know a cap can be beneficial as I'm running one and I measured a definite change in my electrical systems response curve to big bass hits with an oscilloscope.

If your total system power is more than 1000 watts RMS you will need to:
I need to fit a nokia bluetooth kit to my citroen picasso?
1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator and the ground strap.
Failure to do this will result in you replacing them anyway as the alternator will eventually fail.

The general rule is 1 Farad per 1000 watts RMS. But you should sell the capacitor and use the funds to upgrade your wiring and/or your alternator. A capacitor only puts further strain on your charging system and is of little or no benefit in any car stereo system. You would honestly be just as well, if not better, off running no capacitor.
I need help w/ XM radio, Delphi SkyFi2?
the rule of thumb that everyone says is for every 1000 watts of power being used, 1 farad should be used. i am running a 1600 watt amp and am not using any cap, as i see them as useless. but if u really want one then go by thatWhere to connect an earth for an amp in a 1996 renault clio?

Do the Big3 Upgrade (power -charge- wire from alternator straight to battery, ground wire from batt. straight to frame, and ground wire from frame to engine block) all using whatever size power wire you're using (4g or larger). Use copper (or buy the shiny gold-plated ones) lugs and scrap away paint or loose metal when grounding to ensure a good connection.
Like Dude's said, they will just strain your alt. more as it is just more things to charge. Caps take 5 times as long to recharge after it has been discharged (like on a heavy note) and they're only good for power fluctuations of -up to- .01 volts, so they do NO good. Headlight dimming and voltage drops (what kills amplifiers) will be a thing of the past, as long as your alt. can keep up. The Big3 really determines if you need a HO alt.
Do the Big3 and then be AMAZED! Possibly a high-output alternator upgrade is next. If your headlights still dim after the Big3 Upgrade, that's how you tell (if you need a HO alt.)
Car Subwoofer can be configured to 2 channel amplifier for the better output or mono amp?
Good Luck!
well.. lets break it down simple as to what a cap does first of all, then say if their crap or not. An alternator first provides current in an alternating state (that's why its called an alternator) with gaps between their peaks and dips (obviously as the current is alternating) a cap is designed to stabilize the voltage pattern between those peaks and dips so they are non existent (or at least as close as possible) Caps do not take 5 times longer to recharge and do so much quicker than any other storage device (battery etc.) although the above quotes mention the (3) that is still correct. One farad is designed to work with 1000 peak watts or 500 continuous watts though. (directly from my handy stinger guide) although power acoustic is only considered a mid level brand (giving them credit) and are not cea2006 regulated the chances of your amps actually delivering its quoted power is slim to none. Your alternator is going to provide the most use for your amplifier, so it would be best recommended to use a better alternator (high output) if one is available for your car... like its always been said, it takes power to make power. Look on www.the12volt.com and you will find alot if not all your basic questions and answers on that site. Check it out. But a cap by design will help stabilize the voltage being fed to your audio system for a better sound, more stable bass, aiding in the reduction of alternator noise, etc.
