Because you've got it turned up too damn loud is why. What is it with you guys and your woofers, if you think it impresses me or other females you're wrong. How can i fit a sub box in my truck?
Because you are drawing too much current, especially if you are at, or near, max volume. There is probably a safety device somewhere to save your output transistors/drivers. If the 400 watts is 400w peak music power (or peak ... something) then this will come down to 70 watts per channel (400 peak = 282 RMS /4 channels = 70 watts per channel). 70 watts at 12 volts is equal to 5.83 amps (Power = Current x Voltage). Keep this up for long and insulation will start to melt. Of course these power levels are usually transient and so things don't get too hot, but if your music has long bass riffs then you are going to go over the limit. Solution? Don't play so loud, play Debussy or Mozart : )i would listen to what everyone else said, and also you should take your remote to your headunit and stand back where your amp is. crank up the volume to where you had it when it shuts down, and watch the little green lite and see if either it changes red or a different red light comes on, showing your amp went into protection mode. then your feeding it too much, and should get a new separate amp. then you have one for your 4 6x8's and one for your 2 subs.
or if it shuts down then its overheating.

Do I have to have a certain kind of car to have stereo controls on my steering wheel?
there are alot of different reasons, but more than anything we need to know if its going into protection mode or if the power is cutting off? if its the power then its going to be somewhere from the power wire not having a good connection to the ground wire not at a good ground, or even to much current being drawn. If its going into protection it could because of improper gain settings or crossover settings, blown or grounded out speakers. the list goes on (and on) the best recommendation would be to take it to an authorized dealer, and have them look into it.More Questions & Answers ...
