Before You Shop
Instructions
STEP 1: Think about the kind of music you like to listen to and what you like about it. The more bass that is in your music the larger subwoofers you should get. STEP 2: Decide where you will put the subwoofers. Subwoofers commonly go into an enclosure in the trunk, but by using special enclosures subwoofers can go under seats or in side panels. This is mainly going to depend on how much space you have, often smaller cars cannot afford to sacrifice much space to sound quality. STEP 3: Decide exactly how much you are willing to spend. It is going to cost at least $300 and it is best to set yourself a price limit before you go shopping. Tips & Warnings
You may want to pick a couple spots that you will most likely put your new sub woofers and measure them before shopping.
Selecting the Subwoofers
Instructions
STEP 1: Go to a store that sells subwoofers or browse the internet. See the Resources section below for some suggestions. You will also need to purchase an amplifier to power your subwoofers. STEP 2: Decide whether you want one subwoofer or two. This depends mainly on your music preference, but may also be affected by the space in your car. One is good for those who listen to classical, rock, or country, while two are more suited to those listening to rap, r&b, or techno. STEP 3: Decide what size subwoofers you want. Common sizes are 8-inch, 10-inch, 12-inch and 15-inch. The larger the subwoofer, the lower the frequency it will produce (which is especially important for techno). STEP 4: Decide what kind of enclosures you will put the subwoofers in, as this may be dictated by the speakers you've chosen. STEP 5: Consider sensitivity. Sensitivity is how much sound you get for how much power you put into the speaker, higher is better. STEP 6: Consider maximum wattage RMS. Max wattage RMS is how much power the subwoofer can handle. Usually the more power they can handle the more sound they are capable of producing, but also the more expensive they will be, especially since you will need to purchase an amplifier that can produce all that power. STEP 7: Consider the cone. Options include kevlar, polypropylene, aluminum, or carbon fiber cone, getting better in the order listed. What you don't want is a paper cone. STEP 8: Consider the surrounds. Rubber surrounds are best; foam is okay. Do not buy woofers with urethane surrounds. Cones and surrounds affect not only the quality of the sound the subwoofer will produce, but how long the subwoofer will last. STEP 9: Pick the one that fits the above guidelines best. In the lower price bracket MTX is probably the best brand, and Infinity and Polk dominate the higher end market. STEP 10: Choose an amplifier to power your new subwoofers. You want something that comes as close to producing RMS power equal to the max RMS rating of your subs without going over that rating. Other than that, total harmonic distortion (THD) is the most important rating of amplifiers. THD is expressed as a percent, and you want the lowest number possible. Tips & Warnings

I need a head unit wiring diagram for a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Infinity Sound System?

repace your trucks speakers they will be stock and aftermarket speakers are alot better

Im looking for an Ipod FM transmitter+Charger. Which is the best?

You need to look in the Sony manual for your stereo and find out what speaker resistance it is designed for. Normal is 4 or 8 ohms. Once you've figured that out, you need to figure out how much you're willing to spend. I usually go for 'best bang for the buck' if you can figure out a place to mount separate tweeters, its usually best to buy a pair of speakers with matched tweeters. Don't try to mix and match tweeters to the door speakers, its not that easy. For less than $200 you should be able to find a set of very good quality door speakers with matched tweeters. For $100 or slightly more you should be able to find a pair of door speakers that are a vast improvement over factory speakers (if any) and you'll be very happy with. If you don't get a matched set of door speakers and tweeters, look for door speakers with the tweeter built in, these are called two or three way speakers. Two way is usually good enough for most people.

I need to learn the basics about car audio.?

The next note is the fit. This is the hardest part I've ever dealt with. If you've never installed speakers in that truck before, or never taken the door apart, you are better off taking it apart first and taking out the current speakers. Its worth your time to take the door off, and then go to where you're going to buy speakers, buy the set you think you want, and then go out to the parking lot where your door is open and make sure they fit. You could also use the factory speakers to see if the new speakers are about the same dimentions. Pay particular attention to the screw mount points, the diameter of the speaker, and the depth, as well as the size of the magnet. Make sure that the new speakers you buy, if they have a bigger magnet, or different depth, still fit. Stereo shops are usually a good place to stop for simple advice, have them tell you what size speakers fit well, and if there are any problems with how deep the doors are on your vehicle. Then you can decide if you want to buy the speakers there or not.

What is the best Amp for my 2 Audiobahn Subs?

p.s. I just noticed Karthick's response. Why is he talking about subwoofers, when you're obviously talking about door speakers? His comments really don't apply.

What is better a 5 farad capacitor or a Batcap?

As long as they're 4Ohm speakers, they'll work. Don't let people try to convince you that underpowering speakers is bad, it's not.
Power from radios' really isn't that much, so to get the most out of it you might want some speakers with high sensitivity ratings. You wont need to spend that much.
Go to www.crutchfield.com and enter your vehicle info. to find out what sizes you'll need.
Also, you could look into 2Ohm speakers to get the absolute most out of it. Infinity and JBL now offer 2Ohm speakers that get the most out of amps. Infinity and JBL both claim that they are fine for aftermarket radios. Independant testing verfies that this is true. It doesn't cause the radio to overheat like it's believed.
