When ever i step on my brakes or have the radio up loud, my lights will dim. i dont have a system in my car yet but i do have one to put in. my battery was charged the other day. the same day it was doing the same thing. should i look into getting a new alternator before i put my system in?

You Do have a charging system problem. If it was fine before the belt-change, maybe they didn't install a new tensioner, which will cause the alt to not be spun enough therefore noth allowing it to charge.Either they didn't change the tensioner (to save them about $50), or you have a loose connection. Tighten all your power and ground connections under the hood. This might do it for you. If not, you'll need to have it checked.

it is posible take the car to your local auto parts so they can test the alternator around here they do it for free
Your battery was 'charged'? Do you mean jump started? You know, every year and a half to two years youre going to need to replace your battery.
Anyway, it could be something much less worrisome wrong with your vehicle. My guess is your belt is wearing down, and this is causing your generator to fluctuate.

Tighten it and then see if you still experience problems.If your alternator is not charging at idle you should see the red light come on in your dash indicating it is not charging. If you consistently need to have your battery charged , your alternator is either not working ( red light should tell you that) or your battery is failing.depending on the type of car you drive it could be a lot of things causing this problem. The dim lights when you brake make me think it could possibly be a bad ground in your charging system. As insurance before buying any unnecessary parts, try going to a local auto parts chain, like Auto Zone or Oreilleys. They will test your charging system at no charge. A new alternator is only necessary if yours is bad or you are installing very high power amps.
