your average capacitor is 1 farad. it can handle a 1000 watt system. you can look and find a 1.5 and you should be goodThe rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts. If the Sony amp is the only amp you're using then a 1 farad cap is all you need, but it won't hurt anything if you'd like to install 2. But 1 is all you absolutely need.

If you really want a cap, you could go with a 1 farad or 1.5. I also have a Sony 1200w amplifier (not using anymore) which only puts out 400 or so rms watts. And I also had the problem with dimming headlights, but this was due to the fact that I did not have gains set correctly. Set your gains right and chances are the problem will go away. Of course, it will come back when you decide to crank up the system real loud, but then you're going over the rms power of the amplifier and shouldn't play that loud for an extended period of time.Get a 1.5 farad capacitor. It is .5 farad for every 500 watts. 1.5 would work great.
