My friend drives a 1st generation Mercury mountaineer, and already has 2 12" sub in it, I have 2 12" subs with a 1200w amp that we want to put in, I was wondering what were major and minor concerns about this and how would we go about fixing any problems... Thank you!

If the total system power is more than 1000 watts RMS you will need to:1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator and the ground strap.

Keep in mind that you will require a higher voltage altenator to run all of the add ons. Insulate the wiring I run the wiring inside a rubber hose to keep it from being pinched or cut & shorting out under carpet etc. Check your local laws. More & more cities and towns now have laws against noise. It might save you a talk with the police. Where I live it is a $1,000 fine first offence for disturbing the peace. 2nd offence $2,000 & car impounded for state DOT inspection. Under DOT rules anything that isn't factory installed comes out before it leaves the impound yard. All expenses & cost are yours. If you are caught with your stereo cranked it could get costly real fast. Thats a major concern. Use good judgement when driving and playing your stereo.More Questions & Answers ...
