Question:
I was planning to upgrade to a ALPINE MRD-M1005 to power two of my type r subs...the amp pushes 1000 watts max rms...how big a capacitor should i get? does it make a difference if i run a 3 farad or 2 farad? will my amp still push the same amount of power? thanks
Answers:
If your total system power is more than 1000 watts RMS you will need to:
Best Way to Install Sirius Radio in a 2000 Accord?
1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator and the ground strap.
Failure to do this will result in you replacing them anyway as the alternator will eventually fail.
Here is a guide that will help determine power wire size, correct gain settings and whether or not you need an alternator upgrade:

What specs can you reccommend for car audio system for a budget of more or less $200?
You'll need Microsoft Excel, a multi-meter (AC volt meter) and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
If you don't have Excel, let me know and I'll send you the required info in an E-mail. sparky3489@yahoo.com
Has anyone used high level inputs for a amplifier? MTX?

Can I hook up my Krzr to my car stereo so I can play MP3's?
In rare and circumstantial cases, a cap actually helps. I can say this with full confidence as I'm running one in my car and have seen a definite change using an oscilloscope to test the theory.
Alternator noise in radio after runing 0 ga?
In my case, my electrical system had a 4 volt gain in the whole voltage drop out when a significant bass track was played using a the cap as opposed to not using it.
My specs:
What is the best way to hook up an ipod on a factory deck?
alternator: 75 amps (stock)
audio system: 400 watts RMS (total)
cap: 1.5 Farad
current draw of accessories in car: 30 amps (total, everything on except audio system)
Somewhere in these numbers lies the truth to my success, I'm working on a formula to find this. The problem is no two cars are the same as I've added fog lights to my car which changes things from stock. So there can never be an "all-around" method to determine the usefulness of a cap. So the formula I come up with will be just for my car.
I'm also running a few experiments of my own to determine if a cap also increase the life expectancy of the audio equipment as well.
the rule of thumb is at least 1farad per 1000 watts. and its usually better to have to much than not enough. if you had dinner for 4 u wouldnt try to feed 10
you may want to check something like this out too, i find it better than running a regular cap.

thats like adding a 2nd battery to ur car. u can get an isolator on sonicelectronix too
Do i have to use both coils of a DVC sub?
Umm, that's not "like" adding another battery, it IS adding another battery. Of course, adding another battery is actually what you want to do. Capacitors are only good for about one good bass note, then they're empty, and they do nothing.Speaker Wire Polarity Question....Need Answer ASAP?
I'd recommend grabbing yourself a $30 battery isolator (Pep Boys sells them), and a $50 car battery from Wal Mart, or anywhere else, and you can play your stereo to your hearts content, without buying new batteries and new alternators every few months.
Does anybody know the watage on an alpine type r 12?
Crapacitors are WORTHLESS!DO NOT buy crapacitors. You could buy 500,000 farads, none of which will do you any good.
Crapacitors are a marketing scam that works, you bought one.
Capacitors are only good for power fluctuations of -up to- .01 volts. Adding extra batts. and caps only STRAIN your alternator more b/c it's just more electronics it's gotta keep charging.
Your audio system cannot use power it doesn't have. Alternator are the ONLY thing in your audio system that actually PRODUCE power.
Will these subs and amp combo be ok?
To reap the benefits that caps supposedly have (yet DON'T):
Problem with car stereo, deck/amp not turning on.?
Do the Big3 Upgrade (power -charge- wire from alt. to batt., ground wire from batt. to frame, and ground wire from frame to engine block) all in 4g or bigger wire (whatever size you have going to the trunk).
Can you have a mono amp hooked up to 2 subs?
Doing this, other than upgrading alternators, is the ONLY thing that will stop dimming headlights and voltage drop (which overheats amps).
I Promise.
Do this and be amazed by the performance of your audio system.
It's pretty sad people are lead to believe caps work!
Don't waste your money. Spend that money on huge wire.
Good Luck!

Just put an M-80 in each ear..light the fuse and your trouble sare over idiot.u want atleast 1 farad for every 1000 watts. so a 2 farad would work.
