I'm about to buy a 18'' subwoofer PYLE...Right now i have 4 12's with a 1000w amp on them....would the 18'' be louder or about the same as the 12's??

Odds are the 12's should be louder and have a better response, but it all depends on what 12's. Also, seeing that its a PYLE subwoofer, odds are regardless of what 12s they are they will still sound better.

Any cheap 12...especially 4 of them will have a better response and more output than a single 15. Especially if it is a PYLE...extremely cheap subwoofer likely to have significant distortion and be over rated in terms of power handling by as much as 2x or 3x.I need help upgrading my system?
If you can afford, it any two JL 12s would likely out perform your current or envisioned setup.
I switched from 2 Rockford 12s (from my high school years) to a single JL Audio 12w6v2 and could not be more impressed...so much louder and cleaner, as well as a significant space savings.

NOTE: Many pro-audio setups (clubs and concert venues) will use only 12" speakers for their low frequencies because of their efficiency and power for their size. A 18" or larger sub would never work because it cannot effective or efficiently move enough air volume.

If you're pushing the 18 with the same 1000w amp, it is not going to be any louder. You might get a better response from the 12s because they have more inches of speaker. Having 4 12s is like having a 48 inch speaker.JBL Navigation system for 2007 Toyota Camry?
Do not run to 1000w amp to the 18" sub it will sound crappy. Running your 12's to the amp should sound very good just because your speakers can take 1000w does not mean it has to have a 1000w amp. The 12's will be a lot better. If you're smart you won't have anything to do with Pyle. Pyle, Pyramid, Boss, Audiobahn....all that cheap crap isn't worth 2 dollars. Their products never do what they claim they will do. They just put lots of pretty lights and chrome on them to sell bad electronics to vulnerable people. Remember the golden rule in car stereo....you get what you pay for.This question is for someone who knows a little about Pioneer car stereo head units.?

so long as you don't have the worst 12" subs available to man, the 12" subs will be louder. the pyle sub might be able to go loud, but by then the coils will probably burn out.More Questions & Answers ...
