Would the 5X7/ 6x8 speakers have more bass or would the 5 1/4" speaker have more bass in my wife's Mazda Tribute?

If you want to add even the slightest amount of bass, I would reccomend at least an 10" subwoofer and a matching amp to push it. A 100 watts RMS system would get you the "slightest" bass I mentioned.Ringing in Ear at Low/Any Volume with new Car Stereo?

The larger the cone area, the better the bass.definitely go with the 5-1/4 speakers... but you'll have to go to an audio store and listen to the speakers to decide the which give the sound you are looking to get

The difference in audio performance will be negligible, and it is entirely reasonable to install whatever will fit best nechanically.Actually some of the best speakers I have heard were from Bose.They were small about 2 1/2 inches.Full range speakers.Excelant sound.
