Quick question about hooking up system?
sealed means more wattage for your ampported means more bass with air coming from the side of the box.
basically i think ported is the best
vented or ported allows the air to travel out of the box creating more bass when it hits the back of your trunk.. you could also turn your sub box around where the subs are facing your back and that would feel like you have alot more bass.

I did the switch to ported (vented) about 2 months ago and I LOVE IT! the bass is so much clearer and the hit is alot cleaner. You still get the loud thumping bass, but without all the blurriness that comes with a sealed box. I'd definatly switch! How do I know what type of car stereo to buy for a '97 subaru legacy?
if your running 2 alpine 12" you have to listen for yourself most ppl prefer vented due to less strain on the amp deeper and better bass sound also depends on the size of the boxVented boxes are very unforgiving, sealed ones aren't. If you have good data and understand WHY a ported box does what it does, then you might give it a swing....
Where in the fuse box is the fuse for the radio in a 97 ford contour?
Ported boxes are foghorns - they produce SPL at the expense of overall quality. If you want quality, buy a bigger amp to do your SPL and use a sealed box (they have a flatter response curve than a ported box).
what are the common or main problems causing a sub to freeze up.?
The biggest annoyance with ported boxes if that if you don't size the port diameter right (generally people make them too small for the length of port they have selected), your box will "wheeze". You will get sick of that in a huge hurry. Go for bigger diameter, shorter ports if you are using a software program or spreadsheet to help you design.
how to install amp and subwoofers to a 2001 mercury sable?
Off-the-shelf boxes may be okay - I have no experience with them.
i'd go with a ported box. i have a solobaric l7 15 that was in a sealed box when i got it. it was horrible to say the least the 2 mmats 12's i had in a ported box out thumped it. i put that puppy in a ported box and holy crap man!! that one speaker will run you right out of the car!! its a night and day difference.
I pesonally have 2 MMats 12's in a 2003 blazer and has out thumped almost every setup that i have coem across. It is in a ported aero port box at about 49 hertz. They are bad *** to say the least. Go with a ported box and like others posted make sure to keep the ports at the right size. Download a computer program to help you with this.
sealed gives flat response were a vented box has a "bump" @ the tuning frequency. sealed is extremly forgiving on box size were as vented isnt if u dont stick close to the speakers specs u run the risk of damaging ur sub and after u pass below port frequency u lose pretty much all acoustic suspension(air pressure) leaving only mechanical suspension (spider, surround) which i have heard can damage ur subs even @ Low wattage levels
