Can I use the 12V plug-in hole in the back of my car to power an amp for speakers?

It is a 250w 12 channel amp. The car is a 2000 Volkswagen beetle. I can't seem to run the power wire through the firewall of the car from the battery to the amp, so I'm wondering why I can't use the 12V plug-in for power. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The carrier wire for those on-vehicle 12V connections can not safely or efficiently do what you want. Drill through the firewall. After the drilling put a rubber grommet in the hole and it will look like it belonged there. You should always create a dedicated circuit for that type of application; just be sure to fuse it(or circuit breaker).

It will probably blow the fuse to the plug. They aren't designed to supply the kind of amperage that an amp will require.

That is a lot of current. You can try it, but watch out for the wires heating up. If its too much current for the plug then the fuse will blow. do not try and replace the fuse with a larger one, this may overload the wiring.
