I'm buying a 02 Jetta 1.8t, has anyone had problems with this vehicle?

Question:
Was hearing some bad things about this car, was wondering if anybody had any major problems with this vehicle. I really like this car but my last used car (2002 Mercury Cougar) caught on fire while i was driving, don't want anything to happen like that again. Any help would be great.

I have a chance to buy a 1986 Volvo wagon for $100.00 for derby how good is it and whats it worth ?

I've had my 02 jetta 1.8t for about 2 years now. I love the thing but there has been a few problems which were handled by the warranty. Since our warranty went out last year, we haven't had any other problems *knock on wood*. I have heard of problems with window regulators, the window will just fall and not go back up. But I saw on vw vortex that the dealership will fix this problem even if not under warranty anymore. I would recommend one of these cars because it has great performance, theres so much you can do to these cars to customize them. I've become hooked on adding mods to it, it becomes addicting! I've seen a gti catch on fire but the guy could have prevented it and just let the whole thing burn instead of putting it out, so unless you want it to burn or dont take care of it, I think you'll be fine. Good luck! :)

If you can afford the maintenance, these are great little cars with peppy performance, and decent reliability. Not too bad on the eyes either.

Jeep grand cherokee 4.0 1998?

the problems from my experience with these cars are, excess engine sludge which ultimately cause engine failure. this is dues to poor design and this particular problem plagues all VW and Audi 1.8 Turbo engines. problematic power windows. and transmission issues from lack of maintenance since VW and Audi claim the transmission is "sealed for life" and requires no service.

i would look into something more reliable. think toyota or honda. and don't forget to keep up with the maintenance as that is the key to the longevity of the car.

What does Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunctionmean?

Oil sludge - With a turbo, have all oil changes done regularly. Keep all records of those oil changes and get the records from the previous owner(s) in case your engine sludges - so you can perhaps get something from VW. (By the way rumor is VW is being bought by Porshe maybe customer service will be better.) When you drive your car, let it idle a bit before turning it off because of the turbo. This is important. VW Vortex has more info. Parts aren't cheap for any VW.

All car makes/models/trims?

All I can say about Jetta (Mexico quality) is they are problem maker, at least you will see quite a few times the engine light on and off, when you bring back to the dealer, you'd be surprise. Turbo is fun to drive, but not fun to deal when it has problem like turbo-lag, compressor, etc...
If used car is your choice now, I would suggest you to go for the Japanese car (Honda or Toyota).
