94 sonoma help??

i have '94 GMC. sonoma 4wd.. need to replace an outer tie-rod, what would i need and is it easy to do myself? Please give me sources if possible.

Well, that really depends on how Mechanically Inclined you are... Replacing a tierod is very simple... IF U know anything about vehicles... As for explaining how to do it here, That would take a while.. SO I would suggest in going to your local Auto-Part store and buying one of those do it yourself books just for your Make and Model.. ( I think it's called a Haynes) It will tell you step by step how to do it... The book may cost around 30 bucks or less, But it is well worth it... The book tells you everything you need to know about your ride. And if everything goes smooth, it should only take you approx. 30 minutes to replace it and be driving again.

It's not hard to replace at all and to explain it is even faster. Jack or lift truck and remove the wheel on the side you wish to replace the tie rod. Turn the steering wheel fully to the side you wish to replace as this allows more access. Remove the cotter pin in the castle nut on the bottom of the tie rod and remove the tie rod castle nut. Loosen the lock nut on the relay rod now and spray some penetrating oil on this area. Using a fairly big hammer, strike the knuckle where the tie rod goes into. Don't strike the tie rod itself. Usually two or three good whacks will make the tie rod pop up. Now simply turn the tie rod off of the relay rod making sure to count the revolutions that it takes to get it off as this is the amount of turns to re-install the new one to keep alignment close. Reverse this procedure making sure to use a torque wrench when tightening the tie rod to the knuckle. You will still need an alignment to be sure the tie rod is positioned properly. Good luck.
