86 motors bmw 735 i 6 cyl.?

want to know if its worth buying a used motor for the 86 bmw? a mechanic came to see it. and said that the motor was cracked and the oil pan. I got Priced $450 for the motor, and $450 for the labor.

It's only worth it to the extent that you REALLY like that car and want to keep it, perhaps for sentimental reasons. Depending on miles, condition, etc., the car is worth around $1,500-2,000.

I hope your mechanic knows what he's doing, $450 to change your engine sounds cheap to me. Book time to perform that job is over 12 hours...IF there's no swapping of parts. I would be highly skeptical of a "skilled" professional who charges less than $38/hr.
