Question:
My car is sputtering and missing. The spark plugs are new and the plug wires are semi new. It only sputters and misses when the car is stopped and in gear. If it is in park it doesn't do it. It doesn't affect the driving unless going up steep hills. I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the fuel injector on the #4 cylinder, but I don't really know. I took it to get a diagnostics test and it wouldn't read. This is the only car I have, and it's going to be a do-it yourself type of thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated. It is going to be awhile before I can afford a new car.

take the distributor cap and rotor off of the distributor, then pull the black cover back in the distributor. Does engine oil pour out?If so replace the distributor. It's a common problem for that car.
If it does what I say, Do your self a favor and get the distributor fron Nissan. All others are junk unless you know of a shop that buys from WorldPac, Thay have good ones.
Nissan Distributors are about $400.00. WorldPac about $250.00
Either one come complete with a new cap and rotor.
If you can not afford that, Go buy some Electrical contact cleaner and clean all the oil out of the Distributor housing, I mean completly. Remove the entire black cover and spray it out. This will help you temporarily until the oil comes back into the distributor.
If there is oil in your distributor, the only proper fix is to replace the distributor, the bad seal in the distributor is not available by itself unfortunately.
98 caddy sls. how do you remove a rack/pinion? from the side or the bottom/remove the A frame?
Check you plug wires again, and the distributor cap. If there is corson in the distributor, clean it with a wire brush. If that doesn't work. Also check the injections by pushing the top of them making sure the electrical connection is not loose, get some of that fuel injector cleaner. Again make sure that you plug wires are connected nice and tight as well.More Questions & Answers ...
