Question:
I found a mercedes 190E 2.3 sedan, year 1986 with 101,236 miles on it it looks clean and runs smooth. I do not have much money to spend on a car at this time, price is 2500, anyone have an opinion on if this is a good purchase. Would service on a car like this be a problem, it has been well kept.

I have owned several mercedes and japanese cars. The Mercedes will cost more for repairs and servicing...if you can do this yourself you can control the costs alot more.

The best advice I can give is always buy a vehicle within your budget and allow some money for running repairs.

My wife drives an 84' 190E. Great car! It has 128,000 miles on it now (not much for a 23 year old car...) It runs just fine and we never had real problems with it. It still feels very solid. If the car you are buying was well maintained, go for it. Look at it this way: the price is $2500, but lets say you need to put in another $1000 into this car to "make it right."
You'll have a great car for $3500, which is much better than a new small Ford or Chevy for $20,000.
Of course, it's always a good idea to have a good mechanic, the one you trust, to check the car before you buy it.
